Critical Analysis Essay Summary In this type of essay you will take 1-2 literary elements – (THEME, tone, plot, characterization, setting, perspective, structure, etc) and focus on the 1-2 elements and their impact on the entire work. Pick at least 2 works of fiction, poetry or drama from unit 4 and isolate 1-2 literary elements in the work(s). Are the elements effective, believable? Why/How are they compelling to the reader? How do they impact other literary elements of the work (character development, imagery, style, tone, etc)? The elements might be communicated throughout the text, so every paragraph in your essay should be an explanation or highlight of how the element is communicated in the text. A few paragraphs might discuss the conflicts between survivors, then the next might examine the conflict the survivors feel within themselves, and next paragraph might be about the conflict between the firehouse and the media.
