Two long paragraphs on how phonology is at play in your life and in the lives of others you know. Be specific and give examples. How has phonology helped or hindered you if you speak another language than English? Or why has it been difficult for you to learn English spelling and pronunciation from a phonological standpoint?

For example, don’t use generalizations like “phonology is good to know to pronounce words.” Instead, show why Uncle George has trouble pronouncing particular words (use examples in phonetic transcription), or the common spelling problems in his English and why he has them (a phonetic transcription of the tricky word would be good here – do your best). Or how phonology comes into play in your own accent – why is it so? – and what words give you trouble and why (according to phonology). See?
