Your 2nd at-home essay In this five-page doubled-spaced essay, worth 30% of your final grade, you will need to discuss one East Asian country other than China as well as at least one country in Southeast Asia and one country in South Asia. ! For the purposes of this essay, we will treat China under the Yuan dynasty as China, though we will remember that the the Yuan dynasty controlled more than just China, and the Mongol rulers of the Yuan were not Chinese. ! In addition to the booklet on China in Traditional Asian and World History, you will also need to draw information from the pages you were asked to read from the Ebrey, Trautmann, and Lockard books. (Since we will not covered Korea after the year 1392 before you write that essay, for Korea write about Goryeo Korea only. However, you can write about the Ming—since it is discussed in the Sen book as we well as in the chapter we will discuss the day the paper is due. For the Ming, pay particular attention to Ebrey, pp. 230-34. ! We want you to show us that you have read those books. To do so, you will need to cite specific pieces of relevant information you found in those four sources. When you cite, be sure to use the correct citation format, including the page number. Use the Writing History book as your guide to how to cite sources. Remember, you have to cite any specific information or arguments you obtained from those sources even if you don’t put that information or argument in quotation marks. ! You are not allowed to use any sources other than those four. In particular, you are not allowed to use Wikipedia.
