This should give you at least one section to focus on (WWII-era to the Civil Rights Movement which should be in your response in some capacity) in your essay. Because the concept of freedom and liberty is the focus of Foner, turn to the textbook if youre struggling with how to answer the question. You dont have to include every single chapter/change/decade; you just need to include the moments that you believe are most important to define how the concept of freedom in America has changed from the post-Civil War era to the present.
