  1. Trina: I think phobias are anxiety, panic, and post-traumatic stress disorders. phobias are based on fear of something. Often times phobias develop in childhood do to unpleasant experience and grow over time turning into a phobia, A child can also inherit a phobia from a parent, not genetically but behavior and mental. A child watches the parent when the phobia arises then the child starts to develop those same phobias. Example: I had a phobia of mice, this phobia came on when I was in my teenage years. The phobia developed from one night when I was sleeping and was woke to a mouse climbing on me. I was scared and had an anxiety attack. From that day forward I could not even see a mouse. My daughter grew up with me having this phobia, if I would even see the sign of a mouse I would start to cry, sweat and at time hyperventilate. My daughter seen the fear and watched my behavior and then she formed a phobia of mice too. We both have worked to over come this, she has more than I have. My phobia is nothing like it was three years ago, it is a work in progress. So this leads to a cure of, I believe that we are never fully cured we are treated to handle the phobia. Their are behavioral, pharmacological and technological interventions that can treat a person. Taking the bad memories and replacing them with something positive. This can be very difficult as the brain fights this. One’s brain obtains and keeps events that are dangerous or something we fear. When you are faced with this danger or fear of similarity the brain will recall what was kept and the reaction comes on as a phobia. Retraining the brain can be very difficult to not recall those dangerous or fearful things.

Laurie: Everyone feels anxious from time to time. Stressful situations such as meeting tight deadlines or important social obligations often make us nervous or fearful. Experiencing mild anxiety may help a person become more alert and focused on facing challenging or threatening circumstances. I know a lot of people who suffer from anxiety and they are on medication, so I would say yes and no to the question. No because I still don’t feel like I completely understand anxiety because I myself have never had that issue of dealing with it. And yes because in some cases i feel it is the easy way out. The large majority of people who suffer from an anxiety disorder are able to reduce or eliminate their anxiety symptoms and return to normal functioning after several months of appropriate psychotherapy. The patient’s cooperation is crucial, and there must be a strong sense that the patient and therapist are collaborating well as a team to treat the anxiety disorder. I know that there are those who don’t have the luxury of getting that type of help so the only option they have is just the medication, and we all know that when an individual starts feeling better they stop taking whatever it was they were prescribed, an then the cycle begins all over agai
