Compose a mini-essay of four (4) paragraphs. The first paragraph introduces your community and gives a brief description of what it was like in the mid-20th century. What was the approximate population? What was the economy based on? How were the basic needs (water, food, housing, energy, transportation, work, etc.) of the inhabitants met?
The second paragraph should describe the community today. How many people live there? What is the economy based on? How are the basic needs (water, food, housing, energy, transportation, work, etc.) of the inhabitants met?
The third paragraph calls for speculation. given what you know about this community in the past and currently, what will it be like late in the 21st century? How many people will live there? What will the economy be based on? How will the basic needs (water, food, housing, energy, transportation, work, etc.) of the inhabitants be met?
The fourth and concluding paragraph uses your community as a case study to discuss intergenerational responsibility. Specifically, what should residents of your community be doing now to ensure that your community is at least sustainable, and preferably thriving (however you define that), at the end of the 21st century? (Aside: I bet the people who had to vacate Picher and Cardin in recent years wish the people of 1912 had thought this way ).
Citations to sources should be at the end, in Council of Science Editors (CSE) or APA format.
