You will use the Mintzberg Management Competency Model
to:
• describe your current competencies as a manager,
• describe your current weaknesses as a manager,
• identity the management skills, knowledge and
competencies you need to develop,
• identify the ways you may be able to develop the most
important of the skills, knowledge and competencies
identified above.
Please note that you don’t need to have been in a
management role to be able to do this task as you can draw
on all of your life experiences when identifying your
competencies and weaknesses
Marking Criteria
• The essay will be marked against the following
Assessment Criteria:
– effectively uses at least two theories to describe and
analyse your own management competencies,
– identifies your management development needs, based
in the theories used,
– is referenced correctly,
– is free of spelling and grammatical errors and uses an
essay format.
– is no more than 1500 words excluding reference list.
