Movie Review, Visual Arts and Film Studies; Maltese Falcon

Write a two-page reaction paper on The Maltese Falcon, double spaced, 12-point font by Thursday, Oct 30 @ 5PM.

In your paper, start with your thoughts on the film, the story, visuals, dialogue, etc. Then choose two to three aspects of Film Noir as outlined in lecture OR in

Notes on Film Noir by Paul Schrader and write about how they appear in The Maltese Falcon. Make sure that you are not just listing the aspects, but describing how they

are incorporated and executed throughout the film.

For example, if you choose to write about the unhappy ending, dont just state that the film has one, but explore how the ending is unhappy for every character, from

the beginning of the movie to the end, starting with Spades partners death. And the unhappiest part of it is what? That the Falcon isnt real? Its an unhappy ending for

us, the audience, who were hoping, much as the characters, to see this marvel, this Maltese Falcon. And what about that last line of dialogue? How is that for an

unhappy ending?
