In addition, it promotes understanding and application of course material to a personally relevant task.   For this assignment, you will write a semi-autobiographical letter as a way of exploring developmental issues from a more concrete and personal perspective. You will write a letter to a future (or if you already have one, actual) child on his or her 18th birthday. Please be assured that your letters are confidential and are not meant to elicit overly private or emotional events in your lives.   Give the following questions careful consideration in your letter: (a) When or why did you decide to have the child? (b) What are the most important qualities for a parent to have and why? (c) What personal qualities do you possess that might facilitate or interfere with your ability to be a good parent?
