Topic: Critique of an existing language syllabus
Write a critical review of an existing language curriculum/syllabus. Use the theories and concepts that we covered in the course so far to support your argument. Review the relevant literature and provide a succinct critical summary focussing on 2-3 main issues and highlighting some other minor problems regarding the chosen program. In other words do not try to cover everything about the program, but demonstrate your skills in identifying the critical problems that you see in the design
Some of the issues/themes to explore:
? What ideologies, boarder political issues were behind the design?
? What type of curriculum /syllabus is it? E.g. Situational, functional, grammar-focussed, task-based, etc.
? Is this curriculum likely to develop communicative competence, why, why not?
? Does it meet learners’ needs?
? Is it likely to motivate learners?
? Is it likely that it will achieve its goals (e.g. will teachers be able to implement it?)
