Cohen & Spenciner
Paper instructions:
This assignment includes four short answer questions .
Please do not combine or relate them. Please separate and number them with the references under each one, not all together at the end.
1.After reading Cohen & Spenciner: ch. 16, watching the presentation in Module/Week 3, and reviewing the test you examined for Assessment Test Review 1, discuss the assessment of intelligence and developmental ability.
In the first part, summarize the information from the Reading & Study folder in Module/Week 3 as well as the test examined for Assessment Test Review 1. Include a discussion about the pros and/or cons of using the test that you reviewed.
In the second part, discuss the impact that RTI might have on the use of intelligence tests when considering placement for special education. Integrate your Biblical worldview of assessments while discussing the pros and cons of intelligence testing when examining a student with a possible learning disability. As an educator who is a Christian, consider whether your view of the pros and cons of intelligence testing might be different than one who views this from a secular humanistic point of view. Include a discussion of how you might be able to use the information from Module/Week 3 in your current or future practice. Follow APA guidelines (including appropriate in-text citations), and cite a minimum of two references.
2.After reading Cohen & Spenciner: ch. 15, one of the articles from Module/Week 7, and other readings about alternative assessment from previous chapters in your textbook, discuss alternate assessments for students with special needs.
In the first part, summarize the information from your readings in Module/Week 7 and discuss, through your Biblical worldview perspective, the pros and cons of using alternate assessments for this special needs population. Be sure to reference the article you chose from the Reading & Study folder. As a Christian educator, consider whether your view of the pros and cons of alternative assessments might be different than someone from a secular humanistic point of view.
In the second part, provide a brief fictitious profile of a special needs student who would benefit from an alternative assessment. Describe the type of alternative assessment, including the content area(s) that you would recommend for this student and why. Include a discussion of how you might be able to use the information from Module/Week 7 in your current or future practice. Follow APA guidelines (including appropriate in-text citations), and cite a minimum of two references.
3.Reflect on this course as a whole and discuss:
How this course is related to the mission and conceptual framework of Liberty’s Graduate School of Education.
How this course is related to your degree program.
What you learned by completing the Client Assessment and Report assignment. What did you learn that will benefit you in your current or future practice in special education? What changes, if any, in your current or future practice will occur as a result of completing this course?
4.This Group Discussion Board will be based on Written Language. Each candidate will review all subtests available to assess any aspect of Written Language (look at both the standard and supplementary batteries) on two of the following achievement tests: Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement-III (WJ-ACH-III), Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition (WIAT-III) or the Peabody Individual Achievement Test-Revised (1997 Normative Update) (PIAT-R/NU). After selecting which two tests you want to examine, look up each test in the MMY to learn what subtests are available for Written Language and any other information about those subtests. Also read more about the subtests of your chosen subject area on the test publisher’s website.
Compare the type of information for your chosen subject area (Written Language)with that each test examines. State the similarities and differences between the subtests on the two tests and state why you would select one test over the other. You must use specific information such as the test’s technical data from the MMY, the available test’s adaptations for the population you are interested in, and/or the test’s specific content information that you as the examiner would by seeking. Include a discussion of how you might be able to use the information from this week in your current or future practice. Follow APA guidelines, include appropriate in-text citations and a minimum of two references.
