Anyone has an experience that could not sleep after seeing horror movie. When I was a little kid, I saw a movie, Child’s Play, which is a cursed doll can move and even kill people.

I started to sleep with mom for a while after because the scene, Chucky chasing with a knife, rewound over and over like a broke cassette tape in my head. However, hearing news about serial killers and human trafficking, my target of horror changes ghosts or some supernatural beings into a human being as I grow up because I realize the reality is sometimes more brutal than the fiction. The Chaser, motivated at one of the issued Korean real serial killer’s case, is a good example of reflecting reality. The story dealt how a former police traces and catches the killer and this is triggered extreme horror to people because it is plausible case. The movie was mega hit. People enjoyed the feeling at the same time they horrified it. In Stephen King’s essay, Why We Crave Horror Movie, he answered the reason, why people indulge the genre, is because every human being has mental illness. People all have an impulse to express insanity: Roman like watching fight among gladiators, or a person unable to take care of their ego so commit murder. He used interesting metaphor of hungry alligator to describe that personality. Horror movie is a fresh flesh to calm down the aggressive animal. By feeding them, the desire will not come out as long as you keep the gators fed, (King). I agree that horror movie is appealing to people, however, I disagree the King’s point because not all people watch movie because of his or her mental issue.
Before we talk about the fact we need to clarify the difference between horror movie and thriller. Two genres are divided into clearly.
How does a process work until people feel horror through whole movies? When people saw a horror film, they recognize the film is unrealistic so it bring empathize to the character. Horrifying starts from empathize a victim. Being a victim in the movie, people feel as if they were in the situation so they might feel the impulse running away or hiding from danger. People get stuffy and feel the horror that they are through that they cannot control. The most impressive scenes in The Chaser was, of course, a chasing scene that Youngmin, the killer, try to find Mijin, the victim girl. She hides in a small convinent store near the place, she has escaped from, and asks the clerk not to say anybody that she is here. Unfortunately, the clerk thought the murder is innocent passenger, so she talks about how bad public peace are and asks his help to leave instead of her, and finally Mijin is killed. I yelled at the clerk, Don’t say any word to him, you stupid!. In this case, I did not thrilled the fact she will be hurt and killed but I emphatize to her. a People watch horror movies emphtizing to victims when they watch the film.
Here, brings a question: if horror movies only give horror to watchers, then why people watch them? Is not it a pervert feature from sadism? I do not think so. Fear catalyst.
Another catharsis that people have had through horror movie is dull to fear. People feel improvement when they watch entire horror movie and overcome the fake fear made by movie. These trends especially occur in hardship faced. The more horror brought by real is made, the more people want to be hide from reality. The horror movie is a good hideout because horror movies sometimes play a role of .
