This book review is about the Crisis between Iran and Britain in 1950.

1. What were the main political and cultural factors that limited Mossadegh’s capacity to compromise with the British over Iranian oil? What were the main factors that eroded his political position in 1952-53 before the coup was launched?

2. What were the main actions taken by the British (1947-1952) to maintain their control over AIOC(Angelo-Iranian Oil Company ) and pressure various branches of the Iranian government to that end? Be sure to cover the time period evenly.

Please read the chapter 7-12 of <All the Shah’s Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror, by Stephen Kinzer>, and combine with Cold War background, Truman Doctrine.
