In Shooting an Elephant George Orwell gives a recount of what happened while he lived in Moulmein in Burma. During that period he served in the capacity of an officer for the British Raj. Similarly, George Orwell’s story is related to that of Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Stowe regarding a slave that commences in a steamboat in the sea. Systematically, the author of the book argumentatively explores a character who contemplates between the compulsory directive to shoot the elephant and his personal consideration to spare it. On the other hand, this argumentative tendency is exhibited in Stowe’s work where the slave on board a boat meets a five-year-old Evangeline whom he thinks he should save despite inhuman treatment accorded him by the girl’s ethnic group
