Eight years ago, Ron’s family noticed that he was having difficulty remembering things. He had gotten lost on the way home from church one Sunday. His family was concerned because Ron had just turned 80 and he lived alone out in the country. His family tried to visit frequently and take turns checking in on him. Several times, family members noted unusual behaviors, unkempt living quarters, food unrefrigerated, Ron’s claim that papers were missing and increasing forgetfulness. On one day late in May Ron didn’t answer the phone. His eldest son drove out to his home and Ron was nowhere to be found. His son called all of his siblings worried. No one knew where Ron was. They search the community, asked church friends if they knew where he might be and finally notified the police. After several hours of searching, Ron was found wondering the streets of a neighboring town unable to find where he had parked his car. Ron was fretful and expressed concern that someone was following him. Ron’s son was contacted by the police. After admitting Ron to the hospital, the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s was made. For safety reasons, Ron was admitted to a long term care Alzheimer unit.
