Defining Diversity

Diversity, a term that used to be limited to race and gender, has now expanded to encompass a whole new range of subjects. Diversity is the state in which differences are respected, no matter what they are. A word that used to be used to signify the acceptance of different colored skin and sex parts, has turned into an expression of the recognition of marital status, ancestry, family medical history, sexual orientation, along with race and gender. The contemporary world is always changing, and the definition for diversity should be too. This is especially important in the ongoing battle for LGBT rights across the United States.
