Analysis of themes for short stories

Use ONE of the critical approaches (formalist, biographical, historical, sociological, psychological or mythological) to analyze ONE theme (i.e. religion, family dynamics, racism, sexuality, etc.) of ONE of the short stories. You should act as the critic and use one of these approaches to make an argument about the theme. Discuss the choices the author makes through the critical lens you select. Supplement your discussion with at least one outside critical article on the short story that discusses the story’s other literary elements, such as characters (protagonist, antagonist, flat, round), the plot, narrative structure (chronological, flashbacks, flash forwards, etc.), setting, dialogue, conflict; etc. Consider how the deeper meaning of the story is constructed by the author, the text and/or the reader. Note: a biography of the author, while in some instances necessary, is not a critical source

Requirements: Your essay/reflection should include:
An introduction that provides an engaging overview of your topic (avoid a plot summary; assume the reader knows the story).
A strong, clear, and identifiable thesis statement that states your argument, or claim about the work.
Multiple body paragraphs that include your own original ideas to prove your argument and sub-claims about how the text should be interpreted.
Supporting evidence (i.e. quotes, summary, or paraphrase) from the story and your critical source to back up your ideas (make sure to use MLA in-text citations and a Works Cited page to credit your source.).
Use of literary terms and vocabulary discussed in this class to articulate your ideas
A conclusion that revisits your thesis and leaves the reader with a final thought
Accurate spelling, grammar, and syntax.
