article review

There is one very brief article for you to read:

Perfors, A. (2004). What’s in a Name? The effect of sound symbolism on perception of facial attractiveness. Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society, 26. Retrieved from  https://escholarship.org/uc/item/9bq5v5c7 (Links to an external site.)

Pranav’s comment: this is a very brief (1 page) article about an experiment examining whether the names assigned to pictures of people affected judgments of attractiveness.

After reading this article, please write a short (roughly 100 word) response that explains the following:

1) what was the research question of the experiment?

2) how did the researcher(s) go about testing it?

3) what did they say their results showed?

4) what do you think about the result?

Sidhu, D. M., Deschamps, K., Bourdage, J. S., & Pexman, P. M. (2019). Does the name say it all? Investigating phoneme-personality sound symbolism in first names. Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, 148(9), 1595-1614.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1037/xge0000662  (Links to an external site.)

Pranav’s comment: This article investigates whether there are patterns to how people guess the personalities of people based on their names. It’s a bit long, but is fairly accessible.
