Behavioral Health Discussion Module 4 Case study

Consider the following case for discussion:

Tabitha is a 32 year old woman with 3 children ages 4, 8, and 12. She is recently divorced. Tabitha spent the last 12 years at home with her children. She does have a college degree, however, she has not worked since she got married. The divorce took her by surprise. Tabitha’s ex-husband pays her $1200.00 a month in child support.

In the last year, Tabitha has lost her home and moved into a 2 bedroom apartment. Although she has very good money management skills, Tabitha is under a lot of stress. She is sad about the divorce and cannot seem to find a silver lining. Tabitha has found it difficult to do everyday things, and she continues to gain weight. Her doctor prescribed an antidepressant drug; however, it has not provided relief.

Consider the following:

What stressors are present in Tabitha’s life?
How is her mental health?
How should Tabitha deal with the stressors — emotion focused coping or problem focused coping? Explain your reasoning.
What types of physical illnesses might Tabitha experience if she does not manage the stress in her life?
