The following paintings come from the Musee D’Orsay in Paris, one of my favorite museums in the world built in an old Train station I used to use!  The paintings are all of women in the time of our play A Doll’s House.  Look through the links and write in two paragraphs the impressions you get of women’s lives at the time, some are of poor women and some are of middle class and wealthy women.

You may also  take a virtual tour of the museum which is fun by going on this link- you can now be in beautiful Paris too!

What impression do you get of women’s lives from the following links?  What do you think the artists Degas, Manet, Millet, Renoir and two women Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot etc. are trying to show us?  Do you think the artists are judging or celebrating their subjects in any way?  What do we learn about life at this time?
