Essays will be graded on the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the information given. This
will account for 75 percent of the paper grade. The information in the essay must be factually
correct and not slanted by your personal opinion on the issue. The essay needs to cover all of
the items listed in the question. There is no “rubric” for grading the essays. Essays are graded
on the student’s ability to effectively summarize the debates on contemporary political issues.
Proper grammar and correct spelling are required and will count for 25 percent of each essay
grade. In order to effectively communicate your ideas, your essay needs to be well organized,
including coherent paragraphs and full sentences. For clarity, your essay needs to have an
introductory and concluding paragraph, and every paragraph needs a topic sentence. Write
everything in your own words to demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively. Thus, no
quotations are allowed in the essays.
Read all of the general instructions listed above before beginning the paper. Read the article,
“Wealth and Inequality” from CQ Researcher, posted on the class D2L CONTENT section. Write
an essay based on this reading addressing the following items. First, what is the current state
of income distribution in the U.S. and how has this changed over the course of history? Second,
compare the conservative versus liberal positions on the reasons for, effects of, and role of
government in addressing income inequality. Remember, that your report is to be objective
and fairly cover the positions of each group.
The last two items in your essay will be the reference citation and the word count:
Glazer, S. (2014, April 18). Wealth and Inequality. CQ Researcher, 24, 337-360.
