A. Who is the intended audience/reader and how do we know that? How does knowing this affect our understanding of
the essay?
B. Identify the primary appeals that are made to the audience/reader (imagination, emotion, understanding, action,
etc.) i.e. How does the writer address and satisfy the anticipated audience’s needs, wants, and emotions? Identify
the secondary appeals make to the reader. Explain how these appeals affect the intended reader/audience?s
experience of reading the essay.
