Choose a print or group of prints and discuss the processes used, what the print conveys, and any pertinent information about the artist. In addition, discuss why the work is important to you.
I personally prefer Pablo Picasso.
Here is the techniques that i have learn
1. Linoleum Relief Print – Using source material, develop a drawing that can be translated into a black and white equivalent. Consider the image’s reversal through printing. Also consider different methods for drawing transfer, as well as the varied marks available through carving.
2. Intaglio: Dry point – Using the most immediate of etching techniques, build a drawing from observation in metal using the three basic instruments: burnisher, needle/scribe, and scraper. We will consider effective ways to use each instrument, with the addition of other tools for marking metal. Procedures for preparing the plate, printing it, and general care of the metal will be discussed.
3. Intaglio: Hard/Soft Grounds – The initial stage of this print is built using hard ground techniques. Later soft ground will be introduced to further develop the first image. Both grounds can be used intermittently to create the etching. This will be an acid bath based process and will cover the safe and effective uses of acid to bite metal.
4. Intaglio: Aquatint – Using source material and/or a completed drawing work with tonal variations in etching. Consider timing acid biting and the different uses of stopping-out, or step biting to produce the work. The brush will be used during this assignment as a new means of drawing. Other processes used in tandem with aquatint will be introduced.
5. Intaglio: Advanced Processes – With the introduction of processes such as sugar lift, and others, develop an image using multiple techniques. The emphasis in this project is on versatility and experimentation. Build on the skills you used in earlier works to find new solutions and new approaches. Be willing to work in a free and unrestricted manner.
