Review of My Antonia
This passage explains how the country girls astonished people from the town with their shining beauty and their strong sense of responsibility. The girls had such a great interest in responsibility that the Black Hawk youth admired them from afar. The passage depicts the theme of female roles. They are strong, responsible, and oversee the businesses of their fathers when they are out of town. Frances Harling, Molly Gardner, and Lena Lingard had strong personalities and helped anybody who needed their assistance. Even though this passage develops the theme of early responsibility, it overshadows the obvious theme of child labor and the decision of these parents to ignore taking their children to school at the expense of the boys who seem too irresponsible and unbothered about their wellbeing and other siblings.
In the second passage, the writer explains that the battered Antonia still had a charm that aroused people’s imagination. She was not just beautiful but had a character that everybody admired from time to time. This passage gives a glimpse of the challenges that women face in their daily lives as they try to accomplish their goals. From the passage, Antonia seems to be developing into a strong woman who does not want physical battery to pull her back and prevent her from making progress in life. However, it overshadows the need to take corrective actions that would provide these women with better chances. For instance, most people focused on other aspects of the woman rather than the difficulties they went through in their lives. Accordingly, there was no imminent solution to help women achieve the aspirations and ambitions they had in life every morning they woke up.
