The movie being viewed for this assignment is Crash.

For this movie you are to apply the three sociological perspectives that were discussed in class to this movie: 1A) Functionalist Perspective, 1B) Conflict Perspective

and 1C) Labeling Theory. Think of these perspectives as three different ways to imagine racial relations. Take each perspective and discuss how each relates to what

you see going on in the movie Crash. Explain your theory in terms of racism and provide examples from the movie to help you explain. Chapter 1

Next you are to take two 2A), 2B) Theories of Prejudice that you believe apply to this movie and discuss why you believe they apply. Explain your thsory and then

provide examples from the movie that will help you explain your choices. Chapter 2

3) We discussed that prejudice does not all lead to discriminatory behaviors. How do you think prejudicial attitudes work in this movie? Did they lead to

discrimination? If yes provide examples from movie, if no explain why you believe that prejudice did not lead to discrimination. Cite examples from movie.

Take two characters from the movie and apply 4A), 4B) Merton’s typology to each character. Explain the typology and why you believe them to be this type and again

provide examples from the movie to support your choices. Chapter 2

5) Lastly…take this quote by Thich Nhat Hahn and apply it to the movie. How does it apply to what we have been discussing in class and have viewed in the movie? What

do you think these wrong perceptions are and where do you think they come from? What are the consequences? How doe they become dangerous. Give specific examples from

movie.
