Leading Indicators of Construction Safety

i) Select a construction project/activity you want to study. It can be a project you are working on or you are

interested in. If you choose a project you are working on, please do NOT reveal more information than you are allowed

to publish publicly.

ii) Describe the tasks, resources (workers, equipment and material) involved and working schedule. Provide

pictures, if applicable, to support your text.

iii) Identify the types of hazards that the workers are exposed to while performing their tasks in that

project/activity.

iv) Discuss the current practice of hazard prevention or mitigation that are currently being implemented at the

site.

v) Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of those hazard prevention and mitigation systems.

vi) Do your research on what can act as leading indicators of safety in that project/activity. Also discuss how

such indicators can be implemented.

vii) Provide your recommendation on improving the safety performance of the project/activity you selected. It can

include deploying new technologies, incentive programs, training and warning for the workers and equipment operators,

near-miss reporting systems etc.

viii) List the sources of information for your report (E.g.; links to the websites; name, authors, name of journal

and publication year of scholarly articles; names and positions of people you talked to).
