Over the years of my service in the government as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, there has been an incessant bedeviling aliment. This has been because the ministry suffers from combating maternal deaths across the nation. The ministry’s current devices and policies seem to be incapable of stemming the stubbornly high child maternal deaths during birth. Over the past decade, the child maternal mortality has been stuck at 13% against a recommended 4% by World Health Organization, which should be attained by the year 2015.
