Explain Poverty is a significant barrier to accessing healthcare services by those infected with the virus.

This is the Course Overview: This course is an exploration of the basics of grants – how to effectively research for them, how to dynamically write to get them, how to methodically research and find funding for them, how to efficiently manage the process to be successful in seeking them, and how to build simple yet effective tools to make the entire process easier. This is intentionally a practitioner course – this course is about learning how, demonstrating what is learned, polishing the skills learned, and building a toolset to use immediately. This course merges the experience of appropriate and timely selected readings, hands-on activities, discussions, and specifically focused assignments in an instructor facilitated and mentored setting. Emphasis is on helping the student experience and assimilate knowledge and finding rewarding and effective practical ways to be successful. and This is the requirement for the whole semester :

(I will show you my work plan.)

* WORK PLAN: The society is under attack of various deadly diseases that threaten to break down the work force and the economy. The most widely spread disease is HIV/AIDS which renders the victim’s immune system susceptible to various attacks eventually leading to death. Following the increasing rate of spreading of HIV/AIDS in many parts of the world, there is need to come up with a non-profit making organization that caters for the needs of the most vulnerable people. As per the previous researches conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), the disease is both a cause and an effect of poverty in many societies (WHO). The main aim of applying for this grant is to get funds to create HIV/AIDS awareness in society and cater for the needs of the infected and affected people. This shall go many steps into preventing the spread of the disease and the same time providing assistance to the affected and the infected victims. Focus According to the information provided by the WHO, the virus has already led to the death of 36 million people since its beginning. More than 75 million people have been infected with this deadly virus so far. Global statistics indicate that about 38 million people are living with the disease currently. Sadly, most of the infected and highly vulnerable people are in the range of 15 – 49 years of age. The age of infected people accounts for the more than 65 % of the world’s labour. This clearly indicates that if nothing is done, the world’s economies will crumple leading to higher levels of poverty especially in third world countries and sub-Saharan countries which account for 71 % of the total infections (CIA, WHO, UNAIDS) Design methods This section covers the methods that shall be used in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data. Sources of data Two main types of data shall be used in this research, primary and secondary data. The primary data shall be obtained from the website of World Health Organization (WHO), Global Health Observatory (GHO), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the United Nations. Secondary data shall be obtained from previous researches. Data analysis All numerical data about grants obtained from the websites shall be analyzed quantitatively using statistical methods. The qualitative data shall be used to support the findings of quantitative data. Data interpretation The analyzed data shall be presented in tables, graphs and charts for easier interpretation. The deductions shall be made from the graphs. Application: The summary of the research and possible recommendations shall also be provided to aid the process of grant application.

• ( AND THIS IS THE PROPOSAL IDEA) :

The health of workers in my country is the foundation for sustainable economic growth. Economic growth and productivity is a function of health, energy input and other factors that human beings possess including intellectual capacity. Arguably, the ability to innovate in an economy largely depends on the intellectual capacity of workers that in turn depend on healthy bodies. To this end, disease prevention, eradication and curative measures among workers is a crucial undertaking. The international labor organization estimates the world economy loses a significant portion of revenues due to disease- related absenteeism from workplaces. Therefore, a range of measures including free health care access, subsidized health services and health insurance need initiation to contain the adverse effect of disease towards economic growth. Particular attention needs to be paid to dangerous disease such as HIV/AIDS whose effects is highly felt in most workplaces worldwide (Gooch 24).

According to WHO, HIV/AIDS is the most pronounced disease in most workplaces as it has a long incubation period implies that victims fail to manage the disease thus increasing the rate of loss productive workers. Thus, concise programs are required to boost existing efforts in managing the disease including increasing awareness, preventing more infections, managing the infected and educating the affected about the disease.

The range of initiatives needed to achieve awareness includes door to door campaigns, workplace awareness creation, online campaigns, printing brochures and organizing workshops to educate workers and the general public. The programs intend to reach on the first phase the heavily affected workplaces as identified by government statistics. The first phase thus targets one hundred workplace alluding to an average of one thousand workers. In the second phase, the awareness methods shall target public institutions including schools where instructors will be capacity built through sessions and thereafter disseminate the knowledge to students. The target audience for the second phase are thus limitless. The effectiveness of the campaign shall be gauged by reduced infections per year and improved health among people living with HIV/AIDS. The government’s department of statistics shall perform the appraisal survey at the end of the year through the recommended survey procedures as per the law. To the extreme side, the entire HIV/AIDS management program shall spend on million dollars given that it shall run for one year. Awareness sessions promise to spend half of the budget while logistic, salaries and other expenses taking the other half.

Elsewhere, The range of activities needed to contain the spread of the disease require sustainable sources of funding including revolving fund, income generating activities and government support (Miller 19). Currently, grants and donor support from a large portion of HIV/AIDS management fund despite the facts that they are not sustainable. However, most infected and affected people recognize that grant and donor support are short-term measures mostly sustainable initiatives. Conclusively, grants and donations serve as a bridge for self-sustaining initiatives towards HIV/AIDS management for sustainable economic growth (Coley 14).

• THIS THE NEED STATEMENT :

HIV/AIDS is a real pandemic all over the world, as it has no cure. By the year 2013, there were at least 35 million people infected and living with the virus at a global level. During the year, new infections were estimated at 2.1 million individuals whereas 1.5 million perished from the virus and other AIDS related illnesses. These statistics by the World Health Organization (WHO) show the high rate at which the disease spreads.

Sub-Saharan Africa is most affected worldwide in terms of existent infections, new infections and deaths caused by the disease. At least 24.7 million individuals were infected with the virus by the year 2013. Of all new global infections, 70 percent are found in the region (World Health Organization). These statistics highlight the vulnerability of the region.

The virus is managed using Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), which suppress its production. These drugs are expensive and most of those infected with the virus rely on Sub-Saharan governments’ intervention to receive the drugs from local health centers. Recent and frequent lack of financial resources, poor health facilities, and systems and the increasing cost of the drugs have made it difficult for people living with HIV/AIDS to continue with ARV therapy (World Health Organization).

With such occurrences in these third world nations, the virus is set to kill more people in future. Among those infected in these countries, most are adults aged between 15 and 49 years. Most of these adults are highly significant to the economies of the countries and their inability to access ARV therapy places their countries’ economies at stake. They require reliable ARV drugs supply to manage their condition.

Poverty is a significant barrier to accessing healthcare services by those infected with the virus. Even in places where ARVs are free, the patients may not be able to acquire them, as they cannot cater for other costs such as transport to the health facilities. HIV/AIDS makes the body very vulnerable to other opportunistic infections such as Tuberculosis. Such infections have to be treated at a cost if the patient is set to benefit from ARV therapy. Otherwise, taking ARVs does not improve their health at all (United Nations Population Fund). People infected with HIV/AIDS have to ensure they eat healthy food regularly. Food is termed a basic need while it is a luxury to some HIV/AIDS patients. Lack of a healthy diet derails the efforts made to manage the virus.

Poverty levels are accelerated by deaths of adults who drive their countries’ economies. According to the International Labor Organization, 26 million of those infected with the virus are adult workers (Lisk). The effects of this statistic is felt by the individual, those around them and the nation at large

Higher levels of new infections require the government to direct more funding towards health care instead of development projects. In addition, high poverty levels undermine various initiatives and programs created for raising awareness regarding the disease. This affects the wider community as most cannot access relevant information. It becomes very difficult to tame new infections effectively.

As a humanitarian organization, we are convinced that increased funding is important in creating more awareness among the population to reduce the number of new infections from mother to baby and among adults. Mobility and reliability of health facilities and health providers is important in ensuring that all people infected with the virus. The infected and affected persons require unlimited access to ARV therapy and basic needs to avoid derailing the positive effects of the therapy. This way, the economies of these hard hit countries will grow as good health results in higher productivity in the labor market

* (WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO IS TO WRITE ONE PAGE ABOUT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES): A well-articulated statement that illustrates the synchronization of the proposal goals with the organizational goals- that the goals equal the needs.

(Goals are the things an organization hopes to achieve, and objectives are the steps needed to achieve the goals. Chapter four of the book (I upload it) is an excellent, detailed, explanation of goals and objectives, and worksheets 4.1 A and B are useful in drafting the goals and objectives statement. Good examples of goals and their objectives are also shown in chapter 4.
