BUDDHIST NUNS

YOUR INSTRUCTIONS – In 2001, nuns were invited to perform rituals in the Leh Jokhang for the first time. You are a feminist anthropologist interested in cultural change, and will be traveling to Ladakh in the summer of 2017 to conduct research with nuns. What are two of your main research questions and why? Please answer this question by first explaining what feminist anthropology is, and second by presenting and discussing your two original research questions. The research you propose to do must make sense in terms of the local cultural situation as well as be rooted in feminist anthropological concerns.

*IMPORTANT PLEASE READ* In writing your essay, please consider the following: an essay is a short engagement with or analysis of a topic. You should have a thesis statement, or a main point/argument, that you develop over the course of the essay. Given the word limit, you do not need to have a lengthy or repetitive introduction or conclusion. Instead, use the space allotted to you wisely; that is, use your essay to really say something.

Please DO NOT do outside research for this essay, but use course readings, lectures, and discussions to formulate your ideas.
