INTERSHIP-DIVERSITY IN WORKPLACE-RESPONSE TO 2ND STUDENT

Hello Professor Durish and classmates,
I hope everyone is doing great.
Diversity means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, social-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.
It is also understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.
Diversity gives access to a greater range of talent, not just the talent that belongs to a particular world-view or ethnicity or some other restricting definition.
A diverse workforce combines workers from different backgrounds and experiences that together breed a more creative, innovative, and productive workforce. Businesses are able to draw upon our nations diversity and this strengthen their bottom line.
The agency I intern at right now do practice diversity. There are different races, age, gender and ethnicity. This personally, makes the office welcoming and feeling right at home for me. As our article on The Top 10 Economic Facts of Diversity in the Workplace, one of the benefits is diversity helps businesses avoid employee turnover costs. Employees are being retained and it saves them avoidable turnover related costs at the expense of a companys profits. Having a diverse and discrimination-free work environment helps businesses save money. (Kerby S, Burns C. 2012). Most of the staff at the agency am interning at have been working for many years there, am sure practicing diversity makes it possible. I am not sure of their training, if they do have training on diversity, i cannot say for a fact. But i see that the office is mixed with different people.
The video about Dogversity on Diversity in the Workplace shows how most people are trapped in negative stereotype and not taking time to get to know the person different from them. A diverse workforce will produce stronger ideas and fresher thinking that will boost the company. The world, truly, is certainly a Dogverse place, where we must respect and tolerate our differences.
I had worked mostly at companies that practices diversity. I remember when I worked at a Nigerian bank when I used to live in London. Some of the staffs reminded me of the video about Dogversity. They strongly believe the bank should employ more of their own than other races and ethnicity. Though this was over 20 years ago and situations have changed since then, but some companies still struggle with diversity and just do so, so they can be recognized as practicing diversity.
