Rhetorical analysis for letter from Birmingham jail

Annotate and make notes on your text. Who is the author? What is the purpose? Who is the audience? What is the context? What are the constraints? How can you tell? What appeals does the author use?

Formulate a working thesis that argues for a specific understanding of the rhetorical situation at work in the text.

The bulk of your paper will consist of analysis. In each body paragraph, you should make a claim (which should be the topic sentence) that you support with several examples (one example per point is not enough; three should be a minimum) that you analyze. When making claims, keep your thesis in mind. I should be able to tell how and why each of your arguments relates to your thesis.

Your paper should also have an introduction (last sentence is thesis) and a conclusion.
