the Book Thief

The Book Thief is largely a book about the power of words: how words can harm, heal, destroy, or build up; how words can be manipulated, ignored, reclaimed for a different purpose, grasped,

and cherished. Max, for example, did something great when he took Mein Kampf, something ugly and hateful, and turned it into something beautiful and hopeful.
Your assignment is to repurpose something ugly or old and turn it into something that delivers a message about The Book Thief. Begin by choosing a passage or quote from the novel. Through

your repurposed object, offer a creative interpretation of that quote or passage from the novel.
Be creative (and you don’t have to be artistic to be creative) and have fun! On Wednesday, Aug. 6th you will bring your creation to present in class. You will take 2-3 minutes to explain your

interpretation and/or the connections you make with the quote or passage from the book.
I will look for a clear and insightful interpretation, original presentation, original and/or unexpected use of material, poised and clear articulation, eye-contact.
