Paper instructions:
As we come into the modern period of the course, we will be thinking about the loss or disappearance of the individual. A film that explores this topic (among others) is Fritz Lang’s 1927 Expressionist one, Metropolis, Sprague Library DVD NO.1233. View the film and then imagine that you have one hour with Fritz Lang in which you describe to him your idea for a sequel to his film which you will call “Metropolis 2013”. How do you portray the individual in contemporary society? What do want to make the main message of your film? Will you depict similar problems that Lang depicted, or do you think society has progressed? In describing your film idea to Lang, you must show how your film will connect with his—i.e., it is a sequel so it must somehow relate to Lang’s film. [I did not put the film on reserve,
