Feminist Literature: Angela Carter; The Bloody Chamber

Feminist Literature: Angela Carter; The Bloody Chamber Feminist Literature: Angela Carter; The Bloody Chamber Paper details Question to answer: In what sense could Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber be read as a feminist text? Is the Bloody Chamber enacting a feminist critique, might it be critiqued using feminist methodologies, or both? Using at least two of the critical texts we’ve read thus far, analyze The Bloody Chamber’s relationship to feminist theory. You may choose to focus on a particular story, a cluster of stories, or draw liberally from the full text. I would ask, however, that, should you choose to focus on a single story, that you select one other than œThe Werewolf. Teacher’s review on the previous essay below¦please make sure all these are corrected in this new essay you are writing: This is an ambitious paper, in that you attempt to integrate a reading of Angela Carter’s œThe Bloody Chamber into a discussion of several important feminist theorists. I wish you’d be more successful : The different strands didn’t really pull together into a unified argument. There were two main problems “ first, the quotes you pulled from the different theorists “ particularly Riley and De Beauvoir “ didn’t really seem to have much to do with the elements of œthe Bloody Chamber you discussed. The connections were elusive and needed more explanation. Second, you relied heavily on unsubstantiated ideas about women being more emotional, more sensual, and œdifferent but equal “ these are ideas that explicitly contradict the arguments of writers like Riley, who would call this œessentialist or œwoman-is-wonderful feminism. Your interpretation of Carter was in direct opposition to the critics you cited for support, leaving your argument feeling a bit too loose. Please make sure none of this is in the re write of this essay.
