You will be asked to choose, research and evaluate an installation/exhibition/
institution/organization that we have not experienced together. Track its reception and
media presence throughout the semester.
Here are some questions to guide your critique. You may choose to answer some or all:
–How (if at all) does the museum live up to its mission statement?
–How (if at all) does the museum present material or act as an educational force within
the city? Notice wall texts, pamphlets, etc.
–How (if at all) does the museum interact with the surrounding neighborhood and/or
community? Does it engage in outreach? If so, is it effective?
–Use experience: What is the experience of being in the museum like? How (if at all)
could it be improved?
–Technology: What is the museum’s relationship to technology? Is the website easy to
navigate and informative? How (if at all) could it be improved?
–Personal reaction: On a gut level do you like this museum? Why or why not?
