Guidelines for written work:
The following format is suggested to enable you to provide a structured approach to this work.

1. Introduction
Introduction to the assignment, the nature of evidence based practice and criticality

2. Annotated critiquing framework
To show understanding of the key aspects of the chosen study. This is ‘worth’ a 200 word ‘offset’ of the total 1500 word count and MUST appear in text

3. Main Component
Demonstrate critical thought and judgement in considering the strengths and weaknesses of up to three of the following areas

The question / aim / objective of the study
Design / methodology
The sample / subjects / participants
Data collection methods
Data analysis and results
Ethical considerations

Do not critique the article in relation to any areas which are not explicitly identified above. There is no need to describe the research within the essay as the marker will have read it.

4. Conclusion and Implications for your Practice
Discuss whether the research is supported in local or national policy or practice, including from your own experience in practice.

Throughout your essay you must use appropriate references to support your discussion, published material on research methodology and evidence based practice to develop your analysis and critical thought. Further literature related to the topic of the research being analysed will also be needed to analyse the implications for and application to practice. Marks will be awarded not only for the amount of critical thought but the quality of it and the judgements you come to as a result.
