You will be exploring a variety of websites for this scavenger hunt as you learn about resources that can be used for content literacy. You can type into this document as you move through the exploration. When complete load into the dropbox and bring to class.
1. Go to Science Trade Books K-12. http://www.nsta.org/publications/ostb/ Then answer the questions below:
a. Describe what kind of list this is.
b. Which standards are connected to the books here?
c. Find a Selector’s Choice book. What is the title? Who is the author? Why did you select this?
d. Find another book, a book you could use at the grade levels you are prepared to teach/preparing to teach. What is the title? Who is the author? How does it connect to your teaching?
2. Go to the Ohio Resource Center’s Mathematics Bookshelf and answer questions below. http://ohiorc.org/for/math/bookshelf/default.aspx
e. Tell how the lists of books are organized.

3. Go to All About Adolescent Literacy site: http://www.adlit.org/.

a. Peruse the home page and list two topics that are regularly featured.
b. Find the link to “Hot Topics” and select one of interest to you. Tell the topic you selected and why.
c. Explore the hot topic content and select an article to read. Tell the article and in a sentence or two summarize this article.
4. Go to the Read Write Think website. http://www.readwritethink.org/ Click on “Student Interactive” on the menu on the left side of the page. Explore one of the interactive student tools here.
a. What is the name of the tool? Describe it and tell why you selected this tool.
b. How might you use this tool in your classroom?
5. Go to www.ohioliteracyalliance.org. Click on the “Adolescent Literacy Trade Books and Teaching Ideas” button.
a. Then click on ‘search by Ohio grade 6-12 content standards…’ for science trade books. Choose a topic. Then select a relevant title and teaching ideas. Tell what you selected and why.
b. Then click on ‘all of the collection’ and then ‘resources for adult education teachers.’ This will take you to the ‘EUREKA!’ page where you can click ‘list of keywords.’ Browse the top level and level 1 or 2 keywords to find some that relate to your content area. Click to find specific trade books, websites, or teaching ideas. Select a resource and tell what you chose and why.
