Learning about modern-day martyrs-people who have witnessed to the importance of their beliefs by enduring great
personal suffering-will lead to a deeper understanding of Jesus’ suffering and death as acts of redemptive love.
Purposes: to learn· about the life of one modern-day martyrs ,to draw connections between the lives (and, in
many cases, deaths) of these people and the life and death of Jesus ,to explore what the witness of martyrs,
from the time of Jesus to the present, might teach us about our own lives, values, and priorities
Instructions You will write a 2-3 page research paper (plus one ‘works cited’ page) on one of the following
persons. Your paper will include
1. A brief biography of the person(s), where and when they lived/worked, the beliefs to which this person
was faithful, despite the risk of suffering and death (Were they religious beliefs? political beliefs?
something else?)
2. How they showed by their life the reality of the Paschal Mystery by faithfully following their beliefs and
how like Jesus, they willingly suffered for others.
3. You will follow MLA format. You must have at least 3 external sources (no Wikipedia) and at least
