Assignment
This assessment is designed to test your knowledge and understanding of
organisational behaviour and human resource management, research and practice.
There follows five questions that each relate to some aspect of the OB/HRM subject area.
You should choose any three of the five questions to answer. We would expect a
minimum of 700 words per question, but some might require more detailed answers so taking you the maximum of 3000 words. You must support your answers with evidence from acknowledged academic sources. You may use personal experience to illustrate the application of a topic/theory, but you must still provide evidence from acknowledged sources to support your answer. A list of websites that have been shown to provide inappropriate and inaccurate information is available from the module blackboard site.
You use these sites at your own risk but you should be aware that these sites often appear in the work of students who do not pass the assessment.
You are required to provide full academic references using the HARVARD system AT THE END OF EACH OF THE QUESTIONS. References do not add to the word count.

The weekly lecture series is designed to provide the research, case studies and theory that will enable you to successfully complete each of the questions. These lectures and seminars are not the only sources of information. You are encouraged to draw on as many appropriate sources as you can. The more you engage with the literature on the topic the better the likelihood of achieving a higher award.
Each answer should develop a critical analysis of the research being presented and where relevant include case study examples which can help you apply the research.
1. “Does knowledge of HRM help small and medium sized enterprises (SME) ensure
they recruit and select employees who can contribute to maximising the
competitive performance of a business?” Critically examine this question and
support your answer with appropriate examples from theory and practice
2. Critically analyse the value of induction, training and socialization processes in
ensuring the long term engagement of employees. Support your answer with
appropriate examples from theory and practice
3. What factors should be considered in the design of a job to help maximise
employee performance? Critically evaluate and identify the appropriate theories
associated with this question
4. How does investing in staff training and development contribute to the strategic
capability of an organisation? Critically explore this issue and support your

leadership behaviour and transactional leadership behaviour. You should
support your answer with a critical analysis of appropriate theories.
There is a marking matrix at the end of this guide that provides more guidance on the assessment criteria.
I LEAVE THE LIBERTY TO THE WRITER TO CHOOSE 3 QUESTIONS FROM THE LIST. DEPENDING ON THE QUESTION, I WOULD APPRECIATE AT LEAST 1000 WORDS PER QUESTION; APPROPRIATE REFERENCES FOR EACH QUESTION. IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THREE SEPARATE ASSIGNMENTS ALL RELATED TO THE “UNDERSTANDING AND MANAGING ORGANISATION” MODULE.
6 REFERENCES FOR EACH QUESTION.
